Although [[Wirbelwind Flakpanzer]] can hit the [[Allies]] force hard early on, it can be countered by anti-tank guns and infantry with light AT weapons. But be advised that it is very hazardous to attack the [[Wirbelwind Flakpanzer]] at close range as it can easily wipe out soft targets instantly, best deploy AT weapons at chokepoints such as mud pools or tight corners as the [[Wirbelwind Flakpanzer]] is vulnerable without support. Hold the line until heavy tanks are deployed. Since the [[Wirbelwind Flakpanzer]]'s 20mm cannon will hardly do any damage to tank armour, it can be easily destroyed by heavy tanks such as [[M4A3 Sherman]], [[Sherman Firefly]], [[Cromwell Tank]] and [[Churchill Tank]].

Game Info

Similar to the Ostwind Flakpanzer, Wirbelwind Flakpanzer or Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun. Unlike the Ostwind Flakpanzer which is built in a Panzer Command, the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer can be called in instantly to the battlefield once the Luffwaffe Tactics is fielded. Built on a Panzer IV base chassis, the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer is armed with a quadruple 20mm Flakvierling 38 L/112.5 anti-aircraft gun mounted in a nine-sided, open-topped turret. The quadruple 20mm Flakvierling 38 L/112.5 anti-aircraft gun can fire at a rapid rate of 800 round per minute, capable of wiping out multiple infantry squads instantaneously.

In terms of firepower, the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer is slightly less effective compared to the Ostwind Flakpanzer, but its rapid fire capability allows it to effectively take on a larger group of infantry; most infantry recieve damage more easily than with the Ostwind Flakpanzer. As it built on a Panzer IV chassis, it is a tough vehicle to beat and also shares the similar traits of speed and mobility of a Panzer IV.  Most Allied Commander fear the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer not for its firepower or mobility, but its early availability. Differing from the Ostwind Flakpanzer, the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer is a heavy vehicle that can be available quickly; this is crucial as their early availability allows the deployment of Wirbelwind Flakpanzer to repell enemies and cover friendly infantry during early advances or capturing Strategic Points.

Wirbelwind's Crew

Due to the fact that they are easily available during the early stage of the battle, while most armored tanks are yet to be deployed, the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer can give a decisive blow to the Allies logistic and base operations, as it can cause severe harassment to Allied infantry and light vehicles while allowing friendly forces to build a larger force with this bought time. If well supported by infantry such as Panzer Grenadier, Luftwaffe Ground Forces, and Fallschirmjager it can give a quick and early victory to the Axis forces. Even in later stages of battle they can still provide excellent support for infantry and panzer columns, acting as mobile anti-infantry vehicles. It is pretty cost effective as it requires no fuel recources to deploy.

Weakness

Wirbelwind 04

Wirbelwind in combat action.

Although Wirbelwind Flakpanzer can hit the Allied forces hard early on, it can be countered by anti-tank guns and infantry with light AT weapons.  Be advised that it is very hazardous to attack the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer at close range as it can easily wipe out soft targets instantly; it is best to deploy AT weapons at chokepoints  as the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer is vulnerable without support. Hold the line until heavy tanks are deployed. Since the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer's 20mm cannon will hardly do any damage to tank armor, it can be easily destroyed by heavy tanks such as M4A3 Sherman, Sherman Firefly, Cromwell Tank and Churchill Tank.

Flakpanzer Variant

Wehrmacht possed the Ostwind Flakpanzer which is armed with the 37mm rapid fire cannon.
