Military Glider is an Allies Base Structure field by the British featured in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts.
Game Info
Unlike the real thing, which are limited to carry a certain number of infantry, equipment or vehicles. Military gliders featured in the game are capable of producing another unit even if the units that it landed came in are deployed. Available only if the Royal Commandos Support is choosen, the military glider are capable of landing and producing infantry like the Commandos and light tank such as the Tetrarch Tank on anywhere on the battlefield. Like most base structure, these gliders are capable of reinforcing infantry squad to full strength.There are three types of military glider each producing thier own kind of unit:
Commandos Glider
A Commandos glider.
Known as the Airspeed Horsa Mk I glider. This glider is a high-wing cantilever monoplane with wooden wings and a wooden semi-monocoque fuselage. The wooden wings are designed to break up if the glider is in contact with hardened object, decreasing the impact and producing a smoother and safer landing. It can be called in to be deployed anywhere on the battlefield. This structure is the glider that trained and deployed the elite special forces of the British - the Commandos.
Tetrarch Glider
A Tetrarch Tank came out of the Hamilcar Glider.
Known as the General Aircraft 49.Hamilcar glider. Similar to the Airspeed Horsa glider, the Hamilcar glider was also build the wooden fusalage with two wooden wings, which break apart from the main body to absorb the impact and decrease the risk of a crash landing. This tank-cargo carrying glider is the only type of glider design to carrying seven tons of cargo. A Tetrarch Tank is deployed once the glider is sucessfully landed on the battlefield. The Hamilcar Glider is also capable of producing more Tetrarch Tank.
HQ Glider
A HQ Glider.
An Airspeed Horsa Mk I glider with tent and radio set up as a secondary headquater. The HQ Glider is the special glider that trained some of the specialized Commandos support weapon such as the MG Commandos, Mortar Commandos and the PIAT Commandos.
Weakness
Most of these gliders are fragile. they can be easily damaged and destroyed. So best deployed them to a much safer location to allow these glider to continue producing more fighting force.
