LightIn Blitzkrieg Mod, the veterancy system is a bit more complex than it would appear. Each unit gathers XP for killing enemy units and gains veterancy levels when they get the required amount of experience required. The amount required varies with elite units requiring less experience to level up than normal units. Each unit has a set of amount of experience that is awarded upon death and elite units are usually worth more XP along with vehicles. At each level of veterancy a unit becomes more combat efficient. Unlike vanilla Company of Heroes, all factions gain veterancy through killing enemy units, though there are several doctrinal abilities that provide blanket experience (enough to get veterancy level 1 usually) to infantry and tanks. Sometimes, veterancy levels will grant certain units abilities, like "long shot" for Panther, Tiger, and Kingtiger tanks to allow them to shoot at 80 range for 50 munitions a pop. If a unit has ability that can kill enemies, it will gain veterancy through use of that ability. For example, if a Leutnant calls in an artillery barrage on the enemy, it will get the experience and credit for any unit killed by the barrage.

Infantry Veterancy[]

Infantry Veterancy bonuses at first blush appear pretty straightforward.

  • Vet1: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 5%; Harder to suppress by 5%
  • Vet2: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 5%; Harder to suppress by 5%; grenade and Sticky range +6
  • Vet3: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 6%; Harder to suppress by 6%; Max health +5%; improved Sprint
  • Vet4: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 6%; Harder to suppress by 6%; Max health +7%; Health regeneration +0.011; Double Stickies; Fireup
  • Vet5: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 6%; Harder to suppress by 6%; Max health +7%; Health regeneration +0.011; Type changed to “heroic infantry” (supression -25%)

The bonuses stack so the unit at Vet level 3 still benefits from the previous level bonuses. For example, at vet 5, an infantry unit would be 27% more accurate, 31% harder to hit, 31% harder to suppress, have its health increased by 20%, have improved sprint, have 0.022 health regenerated per second, and its armor type changed to "heroic infantry".

But infantry are divided into three tiers which have corresponding modifiers to the veterancy bonuses. This was done in [insert patch here] to ensure that elite infantry weren't overmatched by normal infantry by elites were available and to prevent certain types of infantry from becoming unnaturally potent fighters on the battlefield.

Tier A: veterancy bonuses for each level are lowered by 50%

  • US: Engineers, Riflemen (also the 7-man call in squad)
  • Commonwealth: Sappers
  • Wehrmacht: Pioneers, Volksturm, Volksgrenadiers
  • Panzer Elite: Panzergrenadiers

For example, at vet 5, a volksturm squad would be 13.5% more accurate, 15.5% harder to hit, 15.5% harder to suppress, have its health increased by 14%, have improved sprint, have 0.011 health regenerated per second, and its armor type changed to "heroic infantry".

Tier B: veterancy bonuses unchanged

  • US: 101st, AB Engineers, Combat Engineers
  • Commonwealth: Rifle Section, Canadian Infantry, Assault Squad, RE Sappers
  • Wehrmacht: Grenadiers, Grb39 squad
  • Panzer Elite: Assault Grenadiers, Assault Pioneers, Sabotage Squad, Luft Pioneers, SS squad

A veteran 5 combat engineer squad, for example, would have the same veterancy bonuses as mentioned above the tier list.

Tier C (Vet bonuses for each level increased by 50%):

  • US: Rangers (also the Infiltration and MG squad), CQB, 82nd
  • Commonwealth: Commandos (Sten, Enfield, PIAT, HMG, Marines), SAS squad
  • Wehrmacht: Stormtroopers (all types)
  • Panzer Elite: Fallshirmjägers, Gebirgsjägers

For example, at vet 5, a stormtrooper squad would be 43% more accurate, 49% harder to hit, 49% harder to suppress, have its health increased by 39%, have improved sprint, have 0.033 health regenerated per second, and its armor type changed to "heroic infantry".
